FOCUSED WORKSHOPS

Are you taking a Leeward CC course that involves writing or reading?

Are you interested in strengthening your writing, reading, and/or college success skills?

If you answered “yes” to either of those questions, please read on!

The Writing Center’s newest service, Focused Workshops,

provides “focused” support

to help students strengthen their college success, reading, and writing skills.

These workshops are FREE and AVAILABLE at various times, Monday through Friday.

We offer Focused Workshops on the topics shown below, and

you can sign up for any or all of them--and we hope you will!

To sign up for one of the free workshops, click here; and choose WC Workshop as the center;
and select the Focused Workshop you want to attend.

Each workshop is limited to five participants,

DESCRIPTION OF WORKSHOP

Sentence Errors

Identifying and correcting fragments, run-on and fused sentences, dangling and misplaced modifiers, and pronoun reference and pronoun agreement errors.

Punctuation

Using commas, semicolons, colons, and apostrophes.

Verb Tense

Identifying forms and types of verbs, irregular verbs, verb tense, and shifts in tense.

Subject-Verb Agreement

Identifying the subject and verb, determining if the subject is singular or plural, and determining if the verb agrees with the subject.

Parts of Speech

Identifying nouns, verbs, modifiers, and conjunctions.



 

READING SKILLS

Reading strategies, such as asking questions, looking for key terms and relationships, and finding meaning with context clues.
