Metrosideros polymorpha, or o'hi'a, has reached almost all the high islands of the Pacific since it is dispersed by wind.

The picture below shows an o'hi'a which will only grow to shrub proportions because soil is limited on new lava flows and growing conditions are harsh. Most likely, the seeds for this plant were dispersed by wind from a nearby, tree-sized o'hi'a.
