| Hemignathus parvus, or 'anianiau, is another species of honeycreeper. Like 'amakihi, its bill is short but curved. All honeycreepers depend heavily on native plants that produce an abundance of nectar which forms the bulk of their diet. Their colors and beak shape reflect on which flower types they feed. Among the smallest of the honeycreepers, 'anianiau are found on all the main islands in mesic and wet forest and montane bog environments. Photo by Dave Boynton. |
