Sophora chrysophylla, known in Hawaiian as mamane
, is an endemic plant. It is found on all the main islands in dry, mesic, and wet forests, and in alpine shrubland. It is a source of food for the Palila, a native Hawaiian honeycreeper. Destruction of mamane trees led Sierra Club to sue landowners and the State on behalf of the endangered bird. Photo by Priscilla Millen.
