Maile ,Alyxia oliformis, is a small shrub turning into a vine with fragrant leaves and prized in lei making. Leaves are stripped from the stem and several strips are intertwined, usually leaving the ends open. Leaves do not give off fragrance until bruised. Maile is found in dryland forests on all the main islands. Its fruit is a drupe, like a small olive. It has both a small leaf and a large leaf form. This is the small leaf type from O'ahu.
