The success of the Mathematics Learning Resource Center is dependent upon maintaining good relationships among students, instructors, Mathematics Student Assistants, Math Lab Manager, and others at the college. Often the first impressions are the lasting impressions. Therefore, it is important that your initial contact with someone is good. The following are your responsibilites along these lines.



1. Always be conscious of what is happening in the Mathematics Learning Resource Center.
Ask students who are standing in front of the Help Station how you may be of service to them. Remember that service to students is one of your primary responsibilities.

2. Acknowledge a student's presence.
If you are busy with a student and another student comes up for assistance, acknowledge the student and inform him/her that you will be available short while.

3. Do not let students wait for an extended period of time.
If you will be taking an extended time with a student, inform the next person in line of the situation. Do not let students wait for an extended period of time.

4. Do not join in complaints about instructors.
Occassionally students use the center to voice their opinions about an instructor. Do not join the student with more criticisms. let the student talk to the Math Lab Manager about the situation.

5. Discuss any tutoring difficulties with the Math Lab Manager.
If you feel that the student is not comprehending what you are saying, talk to the Math Lab Manager. We need to be able to assist each student in the best way possible. Let the manager know when a situation is not satisfactory to you or to the student.
