WINTER BREAK

RING IN THE NEW YEAR IN ITALY! December 27 – January, 7
Non-credit program – Introduction to Italian Language & Cooking – This exciting program begins in the historic city of Naples, Italy, with one night in a local hotel, a guided tour of the city, followed by a ferry boat ride to beautiful Sorrento, on the Amalfi Coast. In Sorrento there will be the option of 6 nights at a small local hotel, or homestay with an Italian family, with Italian language classes in the morning,and Italian cooking classes in the afternoon. Trip includes an excursion to Pompei. From Sorrento to Rome, by train, with 2 nights hotel, a visit the Coliseum, and Vatican City. This program is open to students, faculty, staff, and the community.

SPRING BREAK

Ubon Rajathanee, Thailand! March 20 – March 27
Non-credit program – Experiencing Thai Language & Culture through Community Involvement – This unique program offers participants a great opportunity to be introduced to Thai language, and culture, while meeting the locals through ‘volunteering’ in the community. Based in the Northeast of Thailand, at Ubon Rajathanee, this program gives participants a more in-depth look at Thai life. This program is open to students, faculty, staff, and the community. Tentative Cost is $950 + tuition [$237 (3 cr-res/$816 (3 cr-nonres)] + airfare (approx. $1100). Click here for additional information.
 


SUMMER SESSION I

Buenos Aires, Argentina - June 1 – June 29
Spanish & Business - (SPAN 101 through 202 and BUSN 277) - Students can have a 3-credit option by enrolling in intensive Spanish classes at the Universidad de Buenos Aires, OR a 6-credit option by adding a business course – International Business Protocol, taught by Leeward Community College Prof. Stan May. Students will also live with an Argentine family (daily breakfast included). Tentative Cost is $1600 + tuition [$747 (3 cr-res)/$846 (3 cr-nonres) or $1494 (6 cr-res)/$1692 (6 cr-nonres)] + airfare (approx. $1500). Click here for additional information.

Chiba (Tokyo), Japan - June 8 – July, 3
Japanese Language & Culture (JPNS 102, 201, 202) - The program, located at Josai International University, in Chiba – just 30+ minutes from Tokyo, is designed for students who want to improve their Japanese skills while experiencing Japanese culture and history. Each day the program includes 4 hours of Japanese language classes, and 2 hours of Japanese culture classes. A range of activities is organized to develop your experience of the Japanese way of life. Students will live in university apartments near the campus, and spend one weekend doing a home stay with a Japanese family. Hamilton, New Zealand June 5 – June 19 (approx.)
Hybrid section of Hawaii: Center of the Pacific (HWST107) – This class, taught by Prof. Momi Kamahele, will begin on LCC campus at the start of Summer Session I on May 24, 2010, and then the group will travel to the University of Waikato, in Hamilton. The university is the home of the largest Maori Studies program in the world, and students will have lectures on the Maori Studies, and interact with the Maori community. SUMMER SESSION II:

Shanghai, China July 6 – August 2
Chinese Language & Culture (CHN 101, and 102) – This program is located at East China Normal University, in Shanghai, China – the site of the 2010 World Expo! Each week students will have 15 hours of Mandarin Class, in addition to cultural workshops and field trips. Students will be housed in a dormitory on campus. Tentative Cost is TBA + tuition [$996 (4 cr-res)/$1128 (4 cr-nonres)] + airfare (approx. $1200). Click here for additional information.

Seoul, Korea July 5 – August 6
Korean Language & Culture (KOR 101, 102) – The Summer Intensive Program at Hankuk University of Foreign Studies in Seoul provides 20 hours per week of Korean language instruction, in addition to an optional Korean Studies class (in English). Students are housed in a beautiful new on-campus international student dormitory. Tentative Cost is $2300 + tuition [$996 (4 cr-res)/$1128 (4 cr-nonres)] + airfare (approx. $1200).
