Sexual Assault Awareness

Sexual assaults may be one of the most traumatic experiences that someone can endure. After being abused, mistreated, taken advantage of and tossed on the side like an old toy, it is insane to think anyone could manage to go on living life as if everything is OK. Many victims turn to vices or self-harm due to the psychological effects an assault may have on them.

NOFX unique from other punk bands

Writer: Bonnie Dabney

NOFX has been around since 1983. Over the years, they have released 20 extended play albums and 20 full-length albums. NOFX is a quirky punk rock band that incorporates humor, wit, and provocative political statements into their lyrics. Yes, I realize that sounds like a decent chunk of punk rock bands circa the 90s, but NOFX really is unique.

Holiday spirit in the bag

The holiday season is a time to appreciate all the things you have and enjoy time with your family and friends. The student art exhibit entitled "Winter Studio Art Exhibition" is now open at the Foyer Art Gallery on campus. The exhibit
showcases various student artists from Alan Leitner’s beginning and intermediate painting classes. The gallery is located downstairs from the admissions office and open weekdays from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

“The exhibit is an opportunity to let our Leeward CC community know what is going on in our painting program," says professor Leitner. "We have some very talented students who work very hard, and giving them the opportunity of showing their work and experiencing an art opening is part of the painting process. I am proud of their accomplishments and feel fortunate to have been able to work with them.”

There are several paintings on display ranging in art styles such still life paintings and abstract art. It is the perfect opportunity for students to share their delight in art and for others to take in and enjoy the talent of our student body.

The art exhibit will be on through Dec. 7, so stop in and check it out.

An individual’s perception on any given thing is often colored by experience — experiences in some way affects a person’s actions and often leads to a particular bias. On Tuesday, Kevin Kumashiro, director of the Center for Anti-Oppressive Education and advocate of LGBTI (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, intersex) equality talked about how those experiences and perceptions have become a part of the learning environment.
