Monday January 27, 2003. A quick survey was done in Biol 101 (MW) class wherein I asked students to write their comments on two issues:

a) Are the goals and objectives of the course clear to you?

b) What is your preferred lecture format? (PowerPoint presentation, traditional blackboard and a combination of both

Results of the survey are as follows:

1. Everyone understood the goals and expectations for the course. Except for one student, all understood the requirement of this course. One student did not know how the course is graded and how many points each quiz/exam was worth.

2. Power point, blackboard or combo?

a) I like the traditional black board approach 1 student

b) I like the power point presentation 5 students

c) I like a combination of both lecture and power point 9 students

Majority of the class wants a balanced approach and that is an excellent choice for me too!

About PowerPoint Presentation: Many PowerPoint files have been adapted from media supplement of the Textbook Publisher, Benjamin Cummings (Pearson Education, Inc.). I strongly recommend students to visit the Publisher’s website at www.essentialbiology.com (Bio 101) or www.campbellbiology.com (Bio 171) and benefit form their online resources.
