Conference Dollars Program

WHAT IS THE PURPOSE OF THE PROGRAM?
The purpose of the program is to provide some financial help to faculty and staff for the registration cost of workshops, conferences and pertinent professional development courses. Applicants are also eligible for reimbursement for required books and materials.

WHY ARE THESE FUNDS PROVIDED?
These funds are being provided to encourage staff and faculty to pursue professional staff development through attendance at workshops, conferences and pertinent professional development courses.

WHO CAN APPLY?
All staff and faculty at Leeward Community College--full-time, part-time*, or renewable casual hire positions--are eligible to apply. (*Does not include student assistants.)

WHAT IS THE AMOUNT OF THE AWARD?
This program will subsidize registration fees, required books and materials up to a cumulative maximum of $100 per person per academic year (August 15-August 14). The money awarded will be for registration fees, required books and materials only. It cannot be used to pay for travel or housing. Funds are limited.

WHAT IS THE APPLICATION PROCEDURE?
The completed $Conference Dollars$ application form and a copy with a description of the workshop/conference/pertinent professional development courses is submitted to the Staff Development Coordinator in the Curriculum Resource Center in Library Building Room #L-111. Note: The sponsoring agency, date, registration fee amount and cost of required books and materials must be included on the form.

HOW ARE DECISIONS MADE?--Some Considerations
1. Requests for activities that are most relevant to a person's job responsibilities will be
given priority.
2. Applications will be processed as they are received (first come-first served).
3. The number of awards for attendance at a single workshop/conference may be limited.
4. Retroactive requests are not eligible.

HOW ARE DECISIONS MADE?--Process
The Staff Development Coordinator and a two-person advisory board* will approve/disapprove the request and will notify the applicant of the decision. It is anticipated that the selection/notification process will take no more than two weeks. A report of the month's awards will be presented to the Staff Development Committee at that month's meeting.
