Organization Purposes

Established in 1887, Kamehameha Schools has educated thousands of children through its educational programs. Yet despite these impressive numbers, we still only reach about seven percent of eligible, school-age Hawaiian children. In 2000, the Kamehameha Schools’ trustees adopted the Strategic Implementation Plan – “Pauahi’s Legacy Lives” – as a means to extend educational opportunities to many more Hawaiians.

To meet these educational challenges, Ke Ali'i Pauahi Foundation began formal operations in 2001. A non-profit, charitable support organization, the Foundation exists to support the mission of Kamehameha Schools by developing and generating new resources to increase educational opportunities for Hawaiians everywhere.

Since its beginning, the Foundation is leading the effort to identify and cultivate new sources of funding to support Kamehameha Schools’ educational programs and outreach services. This annual report shares some of our efforts with you – programs such as “Pennies for Pauahi,” Kunuiakea, and the Dan and Rachel Mahi Educational Scholarship – ways in which those who have been blessed by Pauahi are able to share their aloha with others. In so doing, they are giving forward so that many more Hawaiians may achieve their goals through education.
