Volunteer Information

Individuals and students accepted.  Halau ‘Ike ‘o Pu’uloa needs volunteers to help in the Halau with different projects depending on the academic quarter.  Individuals can be expected to help with clerical work, database repository, file organization, as well as class-specific help with the different classes offered through the Language Arts Department at LCC.  Projects differ by semester so please call for more information on current opportunities.

What is the Halau ‘Ike ‘o Pu’uloa?

The Halau ‘Ike ‘o Pu’uloa brings a Native Hawaiian-learning approach to LCC’s students.  The Halau focuses on the following Hawaiian values and endeavors to help its students live by these values:

·       Pono – being moral and just

·       Malama – taking care of each other in a supportive way

·       Laulima – lending a hand, cooperating

·       Lokahi – building harmony within yourself and your family

·       ‘Eleu – taking the initiative

The Halau facilitates students to build upon their own talents and skills and interests; it hopes for students to discover self-confidence and success strategies to succeed in college and beyond.

Halau 'Ike welcomes all Native Hawaiian students to use its facilities and to explore its programs, including Ho'oulu Vocational Education Program and the Native Hawaiian Community Based Education Program. Native Hawaiian faculty and staff are encouraged to join Puko'a No Na 'Ewa Native Hawaiian Council.
