What
is the assignment?
Research
the topic assigned and present your findings to the class. You will be
graded on both your individual efforts.
The research project
gives you the chance to focus a little more in depth into doing business
around the world, a topic related
to business communications. You begin working on your project now and
work on it throughout the term.
What is the PowerPoint
presentation?
At
the end of the term, you will submit a
PowerPoint slide presentation with a focus on
doing business in the country you're assigned.
Your task: You will prepare
a PowerPoint slide presentation with speaker's notes script. Assume that the company
you're working for is planning to
increase its business in the country you've been assigned, so most of the
audience members will be traveling to the country on business. You've been
asked to prepare materials on business meeting, gift giving protocols, and
other topics (next webpage).
Required
sections/pages for the slide presentation are:
-
title page
-
researcher
page (about YOU -- name, background info, and photo)
-
table
of contents numbered to match slides
-
presentation
of your 10 minimum research topics (20
slides maximum)
-
5
minimum references list in APA format. For
help with APA format, see the end of your textbook or visit Purdue
University Online Writing Lab
-
speaker's
notes for each slide,
which are the sentences you'd speak if you were giving the
presentation orally. The speaker's notes found at the bottom of
each slide. While the slides are visual and consist of graphics
and outlines, the speaker's notes consist of long sentences,
extended explanations, and examples that can't be
included in the slide itself.
-
The project
must
NOT be plagiarized. Ms.
Hurley will spot-check using anti-plagiarism software.
How
will I be graded?
Grading is 140 possible
points based on the successful completion of the following (see course
calendar for due dates):
-
Journals #1 - #4,
in which you share what you're learning and how you're progressing
through the project
-
PowerPoint slide
presentation with Speaker's Notes Script, in which you share the results
of your research. The slides must meet specific
Grading
Rubric (.pdf) which tells you what your project will be graded
on. Please notice:
-
the
project must have its required parts
-
the
page featuring you (the researcher slide) includes your photo and
some background info about you (remember NOT to write an essay on
slides. So the slides are an outline and the speaker's notes are
the actual sentences you'd speak)
-
the
references are a minimum of 5 well-considered sources in APA
Format
-
NO
spelling mistakes and no more than 2 grammar mistakes (on slides
and speaker's notes)
-
the
design template and colors are well chosen. Slide numbers appear
ON the slide.
-
graphics
aren't cartoonish, irrelevant or distracting
the
slides are an OUTLINE and NOT complete sentences, items are well
organized to avoid orphans, and items are in Arial or other san
serif font (28 - 24 size). You MUST follow the
Rule of 7: no more than 7 words on a line, no more than 7 lines on
a slide = no more than 49 words per slide - no complete
sentences.
-
speaker's
notes script must be for EVERY slide, from cover (which is the
introduction) through the subject slides through the references
and the back cover slide. The speaker's notes contain the words you'd
speak if you were giving the presentation in person, so they
explain information outlined on the slides. They are in complete
grammatical sentences. They must NOT be bulleted lists or phrases.
-
Assessment
Report, in which you share your total experience and evaluate the
activity. You'll find the assessment report form in Module 5.
Important: Due dates
are strictly enforced, and absolutely no late work is accepted. All due
dates are on the course calendar. To
pass the research project, you must meet all deadlines AND submit a
high-quality PowerPoint slide presentation of your research
results.
