Things I'm Interested in (outside of teaching):

  • My family

  • Writing: non-fiction topics, Hawaiian stories

  • Native Hawaiian issues

  • Collecting: Images of Our Lady of Guadalupe, old photos (especially of groups on church steps), Hawaiiana, Depression glassware

  • Creative stuff: jewelry making, baking, gardening, blogging

  • Languages and linguistics, especially Hawaiian Creole English (pidgin). I speak Spanish pretty fluently and Hawaiian not as fluently as I should

  • Music: all kinds. I love Hawaiian music most of all, but I also like classic rock (Beatles! Led Zeppelin! Jimi!), reggaeton, Egyptian singer Natacha Atlas, and Mexican singer Julieta Venega

  • Foreign films: Korean historical dramas (anything starring Song Il-Guk, Ji Jin Hee or Bae Soo Bin), Japanese (anything with Ueno Juri), Bollywood movies (anything with Shah Ruhk Khan or Ashwarya Rai), Chinese, Middle Eastern, and Spanish language movies

I am a breast cancer survivor, so I've pretty much been to hell and back. Please email me if you need to talk to someone who knows what you're going through.
