Things I'm Interested in (outside of teaching):

  • My family: daughters (Kalikolehua, Kawehionalani, and Kaleonani); husband (Tim)
  • Music: all kinds. Lately I've been listening a lot to Natacha Atlas, an Egyptian singer who lives in France. I grew up listening to the Beatles, Led Zeppelin, Jimi Hendrix.
  • Native Hawaiian issues
  • Collecting: Images of Our Lady of Guadalupe, Hawaiian kitsch from the 1930's to 1970's, Depression glassware
  • Languages and linguistics, especially Hawaiian Creole English (pidgin). I speak Spanish pretty fluently and Hawaiian not-so fluently.
  • Travel (especially to see religious icons)
  • Foreign films: Korean costumed dramas (like Age of Warriors and anything starring Song Il-Guk), Bollywood movies (especially starring Shah Ruhk Khan or Ashwarya Rai), Chinese (Gong Li is my favorite actress), Japanese, Middle Eastern, Spanish language movies

My Education:

Tim, Aunty Mary, dad, mom, Kaliko, Kawehi, me, and Kaleo at Kaliko's graduation from Stanford University June 2005. Kaliko graduated from UCLA School of Law in May 2008.
