The Sound of Our Love

Honorable Mention

By Kristel Yoneda

I write to you as the music fills my room
As the piano pounds out a distinct line
From a complicated love that I never understood until now
A running melody that sits heavy on my heart
And makes me ache in such a way
That my entire body breathes for you

The violin strings push against my skin
And lets the sound rise and fall upon my mouth
As if your lips had never left mine

I can imagine the smooth piano keys under my fingertips
My arms tense to push out every single note perfectly
To flood you with this music
To eliminate any space between us
And to fill it with the sound of something too great for words
