Haleiwa Beach Park, on the north shore of Oahu, abounds in photo opportunities. As I walked through a coconut grove, I noticed the skyward view was just as stunning as the vistas along the beach. To control the contrast, I waited a few minutes for the large cloud to hide behind a palm. I sat down, shot straight up at 28 mm and captured towering coconut palms and blue skies. To maintain sharpness through most of the image, I stopped down to F11 and focused about a third of the way up the palm trunk.
