A lazy afternoon in Honolulu's Chinatown. I waited across the street hoping to photograph a beautiful Asian woman, preferably in a red silk dress, walking down the sidewalk in front of Mikiko's. Unfortunately, only homeless and iceheads were to tread this path. As I stood and waited, I noticed shifty looking men on street corners intently watching me. Not one to intrude on drug dealers or pimps, I settled for a picture of the colorful Mikiko Jewelry storefront and was on my way. The bicycle shaped object isn't a sculpture but, instead, is Honolulu's original bicycle rack design.
I had a difficult time finding something to line up with to keep the image level. The sidewalk and buildings aren't square or true. Heck, even the roof is curved! I figure blind guys must have constructed these buildings by feel. Of course, these qualities--along with the smells--contribute to the rustic uniqueness of Chinatown.
