Kasteel Beer • Antwerp, Belgium

Here I am in Antwerp, Belgium. We just saw Michelangelo's Madonna in a Gothic church down the road. As we stepped out on the street the sky burst and we blazed for cover, scurrying into cafes and bars.

This Belgium beer--Kasteel--is 11% alcohol! It tasted good, surprisingly smooth, although it reminded me of a beer with a shot of rum or whisky dropped in it. Probably if I had drank a Belgium white (wheat beer) first, I would not have noticed the alcohol taste in Kasteel.

Check out the glass Kasteel comes in. In Belgium every beer has a special shaped glass complete with logo.

Rested, mellowed and washed in Belgium rain, we all jumped on the bus and headed for the sin capital of Europe, Amsterdam: legal recreational drugs, prostitution and gambling. Our art professor, Barbara Saromines-Ganne, began her lecture to prep us for the whirlwind art tour of Amsterdam. The strong beer, rhythm of the road and Napoleon's love story made for an effective lullaby. Nearly everyone on the bus immediately fell asleep.
