Obviously a major train station should serve as a hub for subway, buses and international trains. However, many train stations in Europe also function as shopping mall, community center and swingin' hot spot. I'm not talkin' snackbars and trinket shops, but tens of thousands of square feet of major retailers, restaurants and bars. In contrast to the outrageous prices in American airport malls, termini retailers charge normal prices (cheaper than tourist areas). So load up with termini booze and food before your next train ride (train bars will rip ya, e.g., 4.5 Euro for a warm beer).
