A view of the Parliament Building in Bern, Switzerland, from the square across the street. Although it's early evening in June, temperatures have dipped into the 60s (F). Surprisingly, Bern teenagers think it's summer and were playing in the fountains in front of the Parliament!
Bern is the cleanest and most orderly city I visited in Europe. I wonder how they get everyone to behave themselves so well? I didn't see any homeless, hoes or druggies. And, unlike Paris and Rome, the streets and train stations weren't filled with the fragrance of urine.
Bern had the freshest produce and most tasty chocolates I have experienced in Europe. The booze filled chocolates propelled me straight into hog heaven. Get your shopping done early as most shops close at 5:00 PM, save train station shops. The train station was no mere way-station for travelers but a bustling hub of commercial and social activity, containing a full-sized shopping mall complete with mega grocery store. Bern was the most expensive city I wandered with prices nearly triple that of the USA.
