Images from the Pacific Coast Highway The Pacific Coast Highway, AKA, US-101, twists along the shoreline from Washington to California, offering towering cliffs, sea-stacks, expansive beaches, ancient forests, bone chilling fog, massive sand dunes, Indian Casinos, Art Deco bridges and rustic fishing villages. Most travelers and trucks are grinding down I-5, making US-101 a relaxing scenic drive. The main gotcha is keeping eyes on the road lest you veer off and tumble into the churning Pacific. And, yes, it's a photographer's paradise.
I've driven US-101 from Southern Washington to Northern California, but never the entire stretch all at once. There is so much to see and do I don't stay on the road very long. During the past decade most of my time was spent on the brisk but lovely Oregon Coast between Seaside and Coos Bay.
