Society Culinaire:

Culinary students are invited to join the student’s culinary club, Society Culinaire.  The organization participates in several fundraising activities throughout the year to support an end-of-the-year student banquet, a chef-speaker series and tasting workshops.  The goal of this college sanctioned club is to actively participant in campus activities, support networking among students and recognize student achievement.  Club activities have been the LCC Family Fun and Craft Fair, DOE Scholarship Bunch, an end of the semester banquet, work shops and restaurant visitations.

Net-working with Chefs:

 As part of the culinary program’s enhancement activities, students participate in a number of community and industry- related activities.  They’ve worked side-by-side with well-known Hawaii chefs such as Alan Wong of Alan Wong’s restaurants, Russell Siu of 3660, Chai Chaowasaree of Chai’s Island Bistro, Hiroshi Fukui of L’Uraku Restaurant or D.K. Kodama of Sansei Seafood Restaurant and many, many more……  Activities include:

  • Awards ceremonies such as the Hale Aina Awards Ceremony
  • Fundraisers such as the Oceanic Institute, MDA Soree, Art Academy and Leeward Community College’s Taste of the Stars.
  • Restaurant grand openings and anniversaries for Alan Wong’s Pineapple Room and Sansei Seafood Restaurant.

Students are also work along side nationally known chefs at the Grand Chef’s on Tour event at the Ke Lani Hotel, Maui or The Winter Wine Escape in Kona, HI.

Internships:

Second semester students are encouraged to seek outside employment.  Students have worked in internship stations such as Molokai Ranch, Oahu Country Club, Niblick Restaurant, Disney World, Café Laufer, Alan Wongs restaurants, Sheraton Hotels, ,JW Marriot  Ihilani Resort and Spa, Zippys, L&L Drive Inn and the Kahala Mandarin Hotel.
