The Educational Media Center’s Video Production Unit is Leeward Community College’s professional, full-service, production facility.  It provides instructional support to the campus through the videotaping and distribution of cable television courses, participation in the Hawaii Interactive Television Service (HITS), support of teleweb instruction, and the capability of producing a vast variety of demonstration and other instructional segments including computer generated animations, and underwater and micrographic camera work, in addition to regular video production techniques. 

The unit has also developed a successful client service operation, producing informational and promotional products for a variety of educational, government, and commercial clients.

Objectives:

  • Provide support to faculty and staff undertaking video production in the form of consultation, workshops, and guidance.

  • Provide support to cable and teleweb distance education students in matters regarding their courses.

  • Provide support to Leeward Community College’s distance education effort through production of cable television courses,

  • Provide course documentation services to faculty

  • Provide full service video production to support the informational and promotional objectives of Leeward Community College

  • Provide opportunities for revenue generation to support the continuing development and expansion of the Educational Media Center and its services.

Video Production provides:
  • Pre-production, production and post-production services.
  • Course design, production of visual aids, and other course-related services
  • Computer graphic design as related to video production

  • Consultations

 

Credit courses produced include Accounting, Astronomy, Biology, Botany, Computer Science, Geology, History, Math, Music, Oceanography, Physical Science, Physics, Speech, and Statistics.

The EMC operates a production studio complete with broadcast quality equipment, a digital video capable control room, and a full lighting grid, two classroom studios and a large digital media lab designed as a post-production facility which are also used by students in the TV Production (TVPRO) and Digital Media Programs.

STAFFING:

The EMC employs Producer/Directors using Ed. Access grant money to assist faculty in the production of video programming for their classes. Much of the production is geared to distance learning classes offered over cable television (TEC), the Hawaii Interactive Television Service (HITS), the UH Teleconferencing Network, and the Internet. The productions are overseen by a Production Manager, a general funded position.

Les Matsuura, Production Manager, Camden Barruga and Robert Oshita, Producer/Directors, are located in the "hub" of the EMC. Enter through L-112 and pass through the Front Office to the "hub" of the EMC.
