UHCC E-Learn
Associate in Arts Degree -
Working collaboratively, the
University of Hawai`i Community Colleges provide courses leading to an
Associate of Arts degree through cable TV, the Internet, and interactive
television. You may also choose to earn your AA degree through a combination
of distance delivered and on-campus courses. Distance delivered courses are
also open to students not seeking a distance delivered Associate in Arts
degree from a University of Hawai`i community college. This is an ideal way
to complete requirements for an Associate in Science or Bachelor's degree,
or to expand your schedule to fit your own on-campus Associate in Arts
degree. You may also take a course for the pure joy of learning. At
this time, this distance delivered Associate in Arts degree and enrollment
in any UHCC distance learning course is limited to individuals currently
living in the State of Hawai`i. Department of Public Safety - In the Summer of 2002 the Hawaii Department of Safety inquired with LCC’s Distance Education program to find out what the possibilities were in being able to offer college level courses in the prison facilities. Working under the auspices of a federally funded grant geared towards Youthful Offenders (convicted felons under the age of 25), Stacy Thomas, Distance Education Coordinator continues to work collaboratively with Dept. of Safety officials to coordinate and facilitate the offering of Associate of Arts courses to four corrections facilities on the islands of Oahu (Halawa Medium, Waiawa Minimum, Womens Community Correctional) and Hawaii (Kulani Correctional). The Youthful Offenders Grant pays for tuition, books, supplies, and supplemental instruction for inmate students. |

Email the Digital Art Coordinator E-Commerce - E-Commerce Courses provide online education for entrepreneurs, individuals seeking positions in the new world of online business and for employees of companies needing specific skills to assist their companies in making the transition to the New Economy. All E-Commerce courses are online, Internet based and modular to fit the needs of students in today’s market. Most E-Commerce curriculum courses are offered in single credit hour modules. The courses provide an introduction to the technology and historical development of transactional services on data networks, an understanding of the elements of e-commerce and e-business operations, an introduction to direct personalized marketing on the Internet, and an introduction to the roll of back office operations such as accounting, inventory control and customer service in the E-Business environment. Email the E-Commerce Coordinator Pre-Business - The Certificate in Pre-Business is designed to provide a strong foundation in accounting, economics, mathematics, computer applications, and written and oral communication for the students who plan to earn a bachelor’s degree in business administration. At least twelve of the 24 or 27 credits required for the Certificate will also apply as general education core requirements for the Associate in Arts (A.A.) degree. With proper planning, the Certificate may be completed within the total credit requirements for the A.A. degree. Students planning to transfer into a bachelor’s degree program in business should obtain the applicable program requirements sheet for the transferee college or university and see a counselor for academic advising.
