Biotechnology and Society - Introduction to the basic
concepts, goals and practical impacts of biotechnology. Real-life case
studies are used to explore socio-ethical, economic and environmental
issues raised by cloning, DNA testing, gene therapy and genetically
engineered food, medicines and vaccines using microbes, plants and
animals.
Prerequisites: Credit in at least one 3 credit 100-level biological
sciences course or consent of instructor and a grade of 'C' or better
in Eng 21 or Eng 22.
