If you like street shooting (or beach shooting), Waikiki Beach abounds in photo opportunities. Almost everybody is carrying a camera and taking lots of pictures, so it's easy to blend in with the tourists. You'll see people of every race, creed and nationality, colorful surfboard and snorkeling displays, beachboys, street venders, performers, etc. The beach boys and girls are not as pretty as the ones depicted on Baywatch Hawaii, but there are plenty of interesting characters to photograph.

The only gotcha in Waikiki for photographers? Steer clear of Fort De Russy. In the aftermath of 9/11 the Feds are extremely paranoid and have arrested individuals for taking pictures on or near Fort De Russy, especially if you have brown skin and a long lens. Fort De Russy doesn't look like a fort and has no fences or barriers, so read the signs carefully (Niketown is across the street). Moreover, it is landscaped like a beautiful park and sports a luxury hotel for military personnel. The military should exit the resort business and return this remnant of the US occupation of the Hawaiian Kingdom to the State of Hawaii.
