I'm not much of a portrait shooter. Inanimate objects are much more cooperative than people. However once in a blue moon I have a go at it and this unlikely combo seems to work. The juxtaposition of urban youth and high Baroque hits the spot here. It must be the "Kicks + Ass" T- shirt. Stylin' kicks and big booty, what more can a guy ask for?
A bit of catch-lights in the eyes would have been nice but no flash allowed in church. Besides, a pop would have blown out the white T-shirt. As photographed, the eyes impart a somber mood and are curiously out of sync with the message of the T. Perhaps there's a deeper message here: man needs more than kicks 'n booty. His soul cries out and thirsts for the great beyond? Or maybe he dreams of new wheels, digs 'n tunes?
The Asam brothers high Baroque church (St. Johann Nepomukkirche) is among the most beautiful, clean and well preserved churches in Europe. Plus it's only a short walk to the Hopbräuhaus if you feel a need for beer 'n um-pa.
