I set exposure and focus manually and composed this image with the tree and sun in the left and right thirds of the frame. With my remote release in hand, I waited for a suitable foreground subject to run by. I didn't look through the viewfinder while shooting. As the sun hung just over Makakilo, I managed to get off a half dozen shots (it was too bright earlier to even try). The single runner was the best image, as the merging silhouettes of multiple runners looked messy.
