A view of Mount Hood from Highway 35, near Timberline. Highway 35 is a wonderful drive if you have a day or two to spare. Start from Hood River (or Portland via 26) and bring plenty 'o CF cards, food and drink. Around every twist and turn are breath taking vistas and not a person or building in sight. If you want to stay at the famous Timberline Lodge, make a reservation. Even outside ski season it can fill up.
An image like this is barely within the ability of a digital sensor to record. I performed some fancy dancing in Digital Photo Pro and Photoshop to maintain both highlight and shadow detail. I basically exposed for the mountain and dug out the shadows--the foreground trees--later.
