Images from Diamond Head Scenic Area Click on the thumbnails to make them biggerDiamond Head is one of the most famous landmarks in the world. The ocean front is popular for its world class surfing and windsurfing. Although adjacent to Waikiki, most of the cater rim and slopes have been left in a fairly natural state, with sweeping vistas, rugged ravins and flowing grasslands. The cater's ocean rim is a popular tourist attraction and affords a grueling two mile hike through scrub brush, steep inclines and 100 degree temperatures. The Honolulu Fire Department normally recuses several tourists per week along this route. Unfortunately, the interior of the cater is not very photogenic, especially the remnants of the military occupation. However, there are photo opportunities in abundance on the rim and slopes to make up for this. The slopes both above and below the Diamond Head Road and Lighthouse are not for the faint of heart. Do not walk these trails by yourself, especially late in the afternoon, weekends and holidays. Never bring children on the trails. There is great beauty in this place but there is also mental illness and perversion. I have been stalked, attacked and had large stones thrown at me. While dodging stones, I fell and injured my arm so badly it hurt for years (I saved my camera!). During those few weeks I glimpsed the good, bad and the ugly of Diamond Head. I don't enjoy watching my back all the time so I no longer tread on these slopes.
Like my other galleries, the Diamond Head Galleria will continue to grow as I process more images. So, come back and visit again!
